Despite a rather scrappy first half, Wan WeeJiang was never threatened in goal and he decided to show off his juggling skills. In fact, his show of juggling with his head and thighs bamboozled the Monaco forward so much that when Weejiang kneed the ball towards his path, he could only tamely float it towards the covering defenders. Kudos to Weejiang for providing the only entertainment of the half.
It turned out to be a field day for the centre backs, with 2nd half goals coming from Feroz and Aaron. With Aaron averaging a goal a game, there has been speculation that Mr Chiang will be putting Aaron in charge of carrying out RT for the strikers on Sundays. Your dear reporter here would like to comment that with the work ethic shown by the strikers, it will only be a matter of time before they start banging in the goals.
On the injury front, it was great to see the return of Zhiwei and Yujun. Zhiwei subsequently came on in the 2nd half and showed no ill-effects of his injury, stamping his authority on the rapidly tiring Monaco midfield.
With debutants Jerome, Feroz and Alvin Heskey showing their quality, this shows the strength and depth of the team. Clearly, this was a signal to everyone that the fight is on for places in the team. With more games and trainings under their belt, the team will only get better. Watch out Division 2, be prepared to run and play the match of your life when you meet the Jollilads!
Injury news:
No major injuries though I overheard coach Arasu banning Jerry from training and games for the next 3 weeks to work on his fitness.
Overheard at the game:
"Eh juffri so short but can head quite well ah."
"We need a new cheer..."
Starting lineup:
Wan Weejiang, Jerome, Aaron, Feroz, Chris, Fuhang, Jerry, Juffri, Harold, Yusof, Alvin
