Availability during summer break

Hi Guys,

If you will be going away during the summer vacation, or will be unavailable for any of the matches in the next coming months due to various reasons (e.g. going overseas for a few weeks, doing overseas internship), do indicate in the "comments" section of this post.

If you will be available for all matches, do also state.

We will need to consolidate the figures so that Mr Chiang and Coach can make plans for the proceeding matches.

Thanks.

Match Report: Mountbatten 0-2 Jollilads

Stricken by illlness and exams, JAFC managed to squeeze out 12 players for the game against bottom side Mountbatten. Despite the lack of training and any form of exercise, JAFC were quick off the blocks and ran Mountbatten ragged right from the kick off.

Once again JAFC dominated play with most of the attacks coming down the flanks via Harold and Khairul but there weren't enough men in the box to make their crosses count. Aik Leong smashed a free kick against the bar before Pramod rifled a shot into the net to make it 1-0 to JAFC at half time.

During half time, the gaffer made his feelings known, describing Fong's 1st half performance as "playing in the playground, going up and down the slide, playing on the swing..." Basically, he wanted the team to make better decisions in the attacking third and to have the courage to play and keep possession of the ball.

In the 2nd half, JAFC kept up the momentum with Khairul destroying the Mountbatten left back at will and smashing in some tantalizing crosses. One of those crosses eventually led to Harold tucking home from inside the box. 2-0 to JAFC.

Then came the Ref's moment of idiocy. Aik Leong tackled a midfielder and the ball trickled back to Weiyang... being under no pressure Weiyang decided to wait till the striker came close before picking up the ball. "BACKPASS REF!!!" Feeling the brute force of Mountbatten's protests, the Ref lost all sense of logic, pissed on the Fifa rule book, and awarded an indirect free kick.

Here's the Referee's official reason to Weiyang (FAS i hope you're reading. The ref's name is Anwar): "You had so much time on the ball. You could have passed it to your teammates, why did you have to pick it up?" Justice was served when the free kick went into the 9-men JAFC wall.

By now, i'm sure we're all used to hopeless standards of refereeing. As the gaffer mentioned, "A good refereee is a bonus. We'll just have to cope." Words of wisdom that all of us should bear in mind.

With many of the players on the verge of cramps and fatigue, JAFC displayed composure and professionalism by comfortably holding out for a 2-0 win.

Starting lineup: Weiyang, Shahril (Weihao), Aaron, Jerry, King Yau, Harold, Khairul, Pramod, Fuhang, Aik Leong, Fong

Next training will be on 30th May, Wed @ NUS 7pm. Wear Red.

Jollilads beaten 4-0 by Ang Mo Kio United

It totally went wrong right from the start of the game. The coach opted for a new look 4-5-1 formation, different from the conventional 4-4-2 usual playing style. From an opposition kick-off, Ang Mo Kio players managed to string just a few passes before the first goal came in the 1st min. A defensive lapse saw a breakthrough down the left flank by the opposition before crossing for the unmarked striker to head the ball in.

The lad's defence was caught napping again in the 5th min. Loose marking and the defenders not tracking the smart runs from the opposition's striker let to the second goal. The ball was played to the middle to the striker's path and our KingYau was unable to hold off the striker and he made no mistake and put AMK United 2-0 up.

Jollilads fought back strongly, gaining possession and had some chances to pull a goal back. Juffri's long range attempt saw AMK goalie making a dive to his right and he did well to parry it. In the 22nd min, the lad's defence was caught sleeping yet again. AMK's midfielder placed a through ball to the middle. Aaron was unaware and did not track the blind run made by the striker. He placed the ball calmly past WeeJiang to make the score 3-0. The lads were distraught. Fong was introduced into the game coming on for WeiXiang.

Half-time talk came and the coach made some tactical changes with a more attacking 4-4-2 and subsequently 4-3-3 formation and encouraged the lad's to keep going. The lads themselves believe that they could make a comeback. Jerome came on for the injured Weihao. The second half saw numerous attacks by the lads, and we did come close to scoring but the ball hit the left of the post when Harold tried to tap in from close range.

The lads made their third and final substitution with Fuhang replacing Khairul. For the last 15 min, the lads played a 3-4-3 formation and kept trying to get a consolation goal. However, with tired legs and fatigue setting in, the lads conceded a 4th and final goal of the match.

This is the biggest defeat the lads have suffered over the two years. The lads are all disappointed for their poor display from saturday's game. Despite all this, the lads are told to take this match as a positive learning experience and there is still a long way to go in the season. The lads will come back strongly from this defeat and they will be looking forward to the next match and prove critics wrong!

Apart from this, the next 3 weeks will be crucial for the lads to manage. We will be juggling with training, our weekly matches as well as sitting for our exam papers. Yet, we are still far from our best performances but given the quality and talent in the team, the lads will overcome this hurdle and put in good results for the games to come. And on behalf of our manager, coach and captain, i would like to wish all the lads all the best for their exams!

Injury news
There were no major injuries picked up during the match. However, several players sustained minor injuries but are expected to recover within a week. Apart from this, the lads are encouraged to do their own fitness runs to get themselves back in condition.

Starting Lineup:
WeeJiang, Weihao(Jerome), Feroz, Aaron, KingYau, ZhiWei, WeiXiang(Fong), Pramod, Harold, Juffri, Khairul(Fuhang)

Jollilads Arsenal FC vs Ang Mo Kio United FC

Match Details
Week 4
Jollilads Arsenal FC vs Ang Mo Kio United FC

Venue: Jurong Stadium
Time: Kick-off 7:00pm
Saturday 5th April 2008

Jollilads Arsenal FC, currently 4th in the table, will be facing Ang Mo Kio United FC (formerly known as Bishan Arsenal FC) who currently stands in 2nd position. Ang Mo Kio United FC, relegated from Division 1 last year, is undefeated with 2 wins and a draw. Jollilads are on 4 points but with a game in hand.

Training on thursday was cancelled again due to bad weather. Jollilads go into this game without a training session for the week. Also, the lads are busy preparing for their upcoming exams. Lacking in match fitness, the lads will be facing a stronger side and it may prove to be an uphill task.

The lineup is not known yet with no news available from the coach for manager. It will be decided on the day itself just before match kick-off.
